Sulawesi has a complex tectonic history that is affected by major plate re-organisations during the Cenozoic resulting in an extension-dominated setting overall of convergence Indo-Australian, Pacific and Philippine Sea, Eurasian plates. It collage disparate terranes brought into juxtaposition variety processes which have occurred at very fast rates. The island subject to geohazards related earthquake volcanic activity.
